Blue Lumberjacks
Submitted by Darrell Blue
This picture is of four residents of DeWitt County, who decided to go to Northern Minnesota to work as lumberjacks. The picture was taken in Minnesota around 1900. In the center in back is Carl David Blue and on the right is his brother Edmund Blue. The man on the left is Tom Strine, and the man in front is Tom Crews. I never heard how long they stayed in the lumber camp, but I would guess that it wasn't long. My grandfather was a strong farm boy, but he only stood about 5'3" tall. I would guess they returned to Illinois in fairly short order after learning about the work. In any event, I know that they were only there for part of one season.
