A FAMILY JAR.
Dr. D. W. EDMISTON and his wife did not seem to be equally yoked together, so at the last term of the circuit court they submitted their differences to Judge Lacey and a decree of divorce was granted. It was also settled that the doctor should take the oldest boy as his share of the family product and Mrs. EDMISTON the baby. Since then the children have visited back and forth between their estranged parents; but lately Mrs. Edmiston got an idea that the Doctor intended to take the youngest child from her and send it to Ohio. Last Tuesday the Doctor got possession of the child, after a row with its mother and Mrs. KNADLER, and took it home with him. A warrant was sworn out for the Doctor’s arrest, and on Wednesday his case was tried before Justice Richey. The trial lasted all day and until late in the evening, when Justice Richey decided to put the Doctor under $200 bonds for his appearance at the August term of the circuit court.

The case of Dr. D. W. EDMISTON against Nettie EDMISTON, for the possession of their son, has been in the courts for several years. It was tried this week in the circuit court and Judge LACEY rendered a decision that Mrs. Edmiston should have sole and full possession and control of her child, but that Dr. Edmiston should be relieved from obligation to contribute to its [sic] support. The Judge's decision will be received with great satisfaction by the friends of Mrs. Edmiston. "A boy's best friend is his mother."

IS MARRIAGE A FAILURE.
For nearly three days Judge HERDMAN and a jury of twelve intelligent men patiently listened to attorneys and witnesses in the divorce case wherein Josephus FULLER is plaintiff and his wife defendant. The social standing of the family connections of both husband and wife in the east end of the county gave the case more than passing interest. Josephus Fuller, the plaintiff, is the son of County Treasurer Fuller, and his wife is the daughter of the late George ARBOGAST. Fuller charged his wife with infidelity and claimed that his hired man, named HISLER, was the villain in the drama. Mrs. Fuller resisted the application for divorce because of the charge made by her husband. She was willing that a divorce should be granted on any other terms, but would not consent to be branded with infamy and cast a slur on the lives of her four innocent children. Certainly this marriage was a failure. After patiently listening to the evidence the jury, within a few minutes after retiring to consider the case, returned a verdict that the woman was not guilty of the infamous charge made by her husband. The verdict gives general satisfaction to a large majority of those who heard the evidence.

In chancery sitting:
Your orator Eugene Lillard of the County of DeWitt and state of Illinois respectfully represents unto your honor that he is an actual resident of the said county of DeWitt and is now and has been for two years last past a resident of the state of Illinois; that on the 22" day of July A.D. 1885 at said DeWitt county he was lawfully married to one Zarilda J. Stivers now Zarilda J. Lillard the defendant hereinafter named and from the time of the said marriage until the 6" day of June A.D. 1889 he lived and cohabited with the said Zarilda J. Lillard as her husband and always conducted himself toward his said wife as a true kind and indulgent husband and provided her with all the necessaries and comforts of life according to the best of his means and their situation in life.
Your orator further represents that the said Zarilda J. Lillard wholly regardless of her marriage covenants and duty afterwards on about the 6" day of June A.D. 1889 willfully deserted and absented herself from your orator without any reasonable cause for more than two years and has persisted in such desertion and yet continues to absent herself from your orator.
Your orator further represents that during the fall of 1889 at Springfield Illinois and at various other times and places since the said marriage the said Zarilda J. Lillard in utter disregard and in violation of her marriage duty and obligations committed adultery and had carnal knowledge with one Nich. Gregory and that said Zarilda J. Lillard has at divers other times and places to your orator unknown since the said marriage committed adultery with divers other persons to your orator unknown.
Forasmuch therefore as your orator is without remedy in the premises except in a court of equity; and to the end that the said Zarilda J. Lillard who is made party defendant to this bill may be required to make full and direct answer to the same and that the said marriage between your orator and the defendant may be dissolved and declared null and void by the decree of this court according to the statute in such case made and provided; and that your orator may have such other and further relief in the premises as equity may require and to your honor shall seem meet.
May it please your honor to grant the writ of summons in chancery directed to the sheriff of the county of Sangamon commanding him that he summon the defendant Zarilda J. Lillard to appear before the said court on the first day of the next August term thereof to be held at DeWitt Hall in Clinton in the County of DeWitt aforesaid then and there to answer this bill etc.

Dr. LUDDINGTON of Weldon, is getting in the sere and yellow leaf of life, but for all that, the old man concluded to give matrimony another whirl. The life of a widower was not as pleasant to him as a home and the bright smile of a wife to greet him at morning, noon and night. The doctor wooed and won a fair lady, and after two weeks of what should have been wedded bliss the gay old lover found that he had made a mistake and selected the wrong woman. The wife has returned to her home and friends and the doctor goes out back of the grain elevator in Weldon every day and kicks himself for being caught by a serpent.

George Poindexter Married His Wife Under That Impression.
Attorney J. M. Gray went to Clinton Tuesday morning to look after the interests of Mrs. Charlotte POINDEXTER of Decatur in a suit for divorce brought against her by her husband, George POINDEXTER. Mr. and Mrs. Poindexter were married in July 1894. Poindexter being under the impression that his wife was quite wealthy. He learned after marriage, however, that he was mistaken and in November, 1894, he left her and went to Clinton. Desiring to become a free man he instituted proceedings for a divorce and Mrs. Poindexter herself willing to be free from her faithless husband, made no objections, until she learned that he charged her with adultery and that he would claim a portion of her property amounting to about $4,000. Then she employed Mr. Gray to look after her case. Mr. Gray found that the case had been commenced in the circuit court at Clinton and that a decision was about to be rendered by Judge Herdman, but he explained the matter to the judge and to O. E. Harris, Poindexter's attorney, and proceedings were stopped and Poindexter agreed to withdraw charges and release all claim to his wife's property. Upon those conditions it was agreed that Mrs. Poindexter would not object to procuring a divorce.

FORMER ACTRESS WANTS BIG MONEY.
Goshen, Ind., June 26.—Demanding $200,000 alimony, Harriett SNELL, formerly Harriett STANDON of the Storks’ theatrical company, has filed suit in the Elkhart circuit court for divorce from Thomas T. (“Thoney”) SNELL, the millionaire grandson of the late Col. Snell, whose amours were given such wide publicity in connection with the suit brought by a son to break the will.
The money to fight the suit against the will was advanced by “Thoney” Snell, who inherited an income of $30,000 a year from his grandfather. He is vice president of the St. Joseph Valley bank of Elkhart, and of the First National bank of Gary. He is also interested in a dozen enterprises in northern Indiana.
His first wife was a 16-year-old girl, with whom he lived one week, and who later got a divorce. His second wife, Mrs. Standon, he saw on the stage and followed from point to point.

KENNEY MAN WANTS DIVORCE.
Wm. MYERS, who had been an Illinois Central agent at Kenney, nearly fifteen years, has applied for divorce, charging his wife with adultery, and names W. J. MORPHEW as the man who has came between himself and his wife. It is understood that Mr. MORPHEW strenuously denies that charge and will fight it to the last. He has had charge of [the] board and trade office here three years and stands well with the people. Mr. MYERS and wife have been having trouble several months. He places the value of his property at $3,000.

Bill for Divorce.
Emma BOWMAN of Bloomington has filed a bill for divorce against Wm. BOWMAN in which she avers that they were married at Clinton, Ill., in June, 1901, and that they lived together until April 1, 1909, when she alleges she was forced to leave him on account of extreme and repeated cruelty and drunkenness. She avers that he struck and beat her and made her life unbearable. She further represents that she has an interest in certain household goods now in her husband's place and asks the court to grant an injunction to prevent her husband from doing harm while she removes her belongings. She avers that he has threatened her and she fears that he will carry out his threats. —Pantagraph
She began suit for divorce in Clinton last year, but withdrew the case before trial.

About a year ago Edward CACKLEY of Omaha, Neb., and Miss Daisy ROBBINS, of Pekin, were married. Two months later they separated. Last spring she began suit for divorce, charging cruelty. She asked for $20,000 alimony and $300 a month for the future. At Pekin last week she was given a divorce and the return of her maiden name, but she got no money except $75 a month to the day of the trial. She is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. L. ROBBINS, formerly of Clinton; Mr. Cackley also lived in Clinton until about three years ago and still owns property here.
