Union Cemetery is located just south of Waynesville in section 31 on the right side of County Rd. 4.  It is on land originally owned by the pioneer Prettyman Marvel.  This is among one of the nicest Cemeteries in DeWitt, very well groomed and although some of the older stones are decaying, all that can be done seems to get done.  The caretakers of this Cemetery should be applauded.  The earliest stone seems to be that of Melissa Barr, daughter of J. and M. Barr d. Jan. 12, 1833.   Burials are still active in this beautiful Cemetery.

Waynesville.

Many of the readers of THE PUBLIC who have friends and relations buried in the Waynesville grave-yards west of town, will be glad to learn that these yards have been united and fenced.  The two lots known as the Presbyterian and Methodist grave-yards joined northeast and southwest corners.  They were not connected with those churches, but were deeded to the public by Mr. Prettyman Marvel, a Methodist class leader, and Mr. Joshua Cantrall, an elder in the Presbyterian Church, hence the denominational names.

The field west of the Presbyterian yard, and north of the Methodist, belonged to Mr. Dickey, and was purchased by a committee last October, thus uniting the yards.  The graves have been cleared off, a strong fence built and painted, and the whole appearance improved.  The following trustees have been elected: J. C. Cantrall, Prettyman Barr, Walter Atchison, Chas. Jones and John Baker.  Persons living at a distance, having friends buried there, can learn the condition of the graves or monuments by writing to any of these trustees.
