Rebecca Goble
A TEACHER'S DIARY
My Great Grandfather was Wilber Fisk Chandler. He was married to Edna Goble on April 14, 1881. Edna was the daughter of Isaac and Jane Goble of Dewitt county, Illinois. Edna and Wilber moved from Weldon, Illinois, to Fresno, California, in 1888.
Edna had a sister, Rebecca Goble, born in 1861 in Dewitt county. She joined her sister Edna in Fresno and died there December 28, 1940. I have recently found in my mother's belongings a perfectly preserved diary from 1887 written by Rebecca Goble. It describes her day-to-day life as a school teacher in Dewitt county, Illinois, from Jan 1. 1887, to Dec 31, 1887. It is quite an amazing story both in its detail as well as its simplicity. I would love to share it with others who might be interested from an historical as well as "family" perspective.
