(1) Affidavit - 26 Jun 1863 – DeWitt Co, Illinois
William Y. McCord, resident of Santa Anna, DeWitt Co, Illinois, aged 46 years, makes the following
declaration. As guardian of the minor children of Isaiah Weedman, deceased, in order to obtain
the benefits of the provisions made by the Act of Congress approved 14 Jul 1862 granting pensions to
minor children under sixteen years of age of deceased officers and soldiers, he declares he is the
guardian of Martin L. Weedman and Claire L. Weedman, his wards, whose father was a Sergeant in the
2nd Illinois Volunteer Cavalry, and that the said Isaiah L. Weedman died at Holly Springs, Mississippi,
on 20 Dec 1862 by reason of a gunshot received in the head. That the mother of the children died
in McLean County 15 Sep 1860 and that Martin, aged 9, was born 22 Mar 1863 (sic, should be 1854) and
Claire, aged 5, was born 5 Dec 1862 (sic, should be 1857). He further declares that the parents
of his said wards were married at Mount Pleasant, DeWitt Co, Illinois, on 28 Jun 1853 by S. A. Martin,
Minister of the Gospel. He hereby constitutes and appoints A. C.Washburn of Bloomington, Illinois,
his attorney to prosecute this claim with power of substitution and authorizes him to receive their
pension certificate.

(2) Affidavit – 26 Jun 1863 – DeWitt Co, Illinois
John Marsh and Richard Kirby, residents of DeWitt Co, Illinois, of lawful age, declare they are
personally acquainted with Wm. Y. McCord. They were also acquainted with Isaiah Weedman in
his lifetime and that he performed military service and died as stated, and they know that he and
the mother of Martin and Claire lived together as husband and wife and that she died.

Handwritten certification that William Y. McCord is the legally appointed guardian of Martin L.
and Claire L. Weedman, heirs of Isaiah and Ruth E. Weedman, deceased, as appears in the records
of his office.

(5) Record of the Adjutant General's Office – 4 Aug 1863 – Washington, D. C.
Isaiah Weedman was enrolled on 30 Jul 1861 at Monticello, Illinois, in Company F, 2nd Illinois
Volunteer Cavalry, to serve 3 years. He was mustered in as a Private on 12 Aug 1861 at
Springfield, Illinois. On the muster rolls of Company F for the months of November and
December 1862 he is reported Sergeant and Killed in Battle at Holly Springs, Mississippi, 20
Dec 1862.
(6) Certification of Bible Record – 27 Nov 1863 – DeWitt Co, Illinois
James Lisenby, Clerk of the County Court in and for DeWitt County, certifies that the following
is a true copy of the Bible Record of the birth of Martin L. Weedman and Claire L. Weedman.
Martin L. Weedman was “borned” March 22nd 1854.
Claire L. Weedman was “borned” Dec 5th 1857.
(7) Affidavit – 21 Dec 1863 – DeWitt Co, Illinois
John H. McCord and Harriet McCord, of lawful age, state that the appended Bible record of the ages
of the heirs of Isaiah Weedman, deceased, is the identical record that Isaiah Weedman used to record
the ages of his children. Harriet McCord and Dorcus Wilson, of lawful age, declare that they were
present at the time of the "bearth" of Martin L. Weedman and know that the Bible record is
correct.

(8) Affidavit – 2 Oct 1867 – DeWitt Co, Illinois
William Y. McCord, a resident of DeWitt Co, Illinois, makes the following declaration in order to
obtain the benefit of the provision made by the second section of the Act of Congress increasing
the pensions of widows and orphans approved 25 Jul 1866. He is the guardian of Martin Weedman,
born 22 Mar 1854 and of Claire L. Weedman, born 5 Dec 1857 and who are the only surviving children
of Isaiah Weedman, deceased, who was late a Sergeant in Co. F, 2nd Regiment, Illinois Volunteer
Cavalry in the war of 1861-1865. The said Isaiah Weedman was killed in battle while in the
line of his duty as a soldier on 20 Dec 1862 at Holly Springs, Mississippi.
Ruth E. Weedman, the mother of the said minor children died in McLean Co, Illinois, on or about the [blank] day of September 1860. He further declares that the parents of the said minor children were duly married at DeWitt County, Illinois on the [blank] day of March 1853 by Samuel H. Martin, a Minister, and that the maiden name of the mother was Miss Ruth E. Cummings.
He further states that he made application to the Commissioner of Pensions and received Pension Certificate No. 11760 allowing his said wards the sum of eight dollars per month.
He further says that he now has, and has had, since his appointment as guardian, the sole care,
nurture and education of his said wards, and that he has never abandoned them or either of them
nor suffered them or either of them to be adopted by any other person or persons.
