Arrod Knight, born in Holmes Co, Ohio, aged 26, occupation a farmer, volunteered 5 January 1864,
to serve for a period of three years unless sooner discharged by proper authority. He also
agrees to accept such bounty, pay, rations, and clothing as are established by law for volunteers.
Arrod Knight swears he will bear true allegiance to the United States.

(2) Affidavit – 25 Apr 1878 – DeWitt Co, Illinois
Arrod Knight, aged 40, states he enlisted as a private of Company F, 2nd Illinois Volunteer Cavalry,
in Piatt Co, Illinois, on 30 July 1861, and that he reenlisted as a veteran on 5 Jan 1864, and was
transferred to Company A as consolidated. He was honorably discharged from said service as a
Corporal 22 Nov 1865 at San Antonio, Texas.
While in the service the claimant experienced exposure and was compelled to carry his fire arms on
his person constantly and without relief. Also he had to remain in the saddle for long periods
of time. His left side became paralyzed and more particularly from the hip up, and the left arm
is almost completely paralyzed, said marches being from "Batton Roush" through the State of
Mississippi and back and close to "Mobille" and near Lake "Ponchitrain." During
the winter of 1864 & 1865, and every march or raid that was made after, the claimant was with his
regiment and continued to grow worse with the said disability. The claimant says that his present
physical condition is such from the disability that he is unable to perform labor as is required by
his avocation and that he believes himself entitled to a pension as provided by acts of congress.
He has resided in DeWitt County near the place of his enlistment since his return home from the army
with the exception of two years in Kansas. His Post Office is Farmer City, DeWitt Co, Illinois.

(3) Adjutant General’s Office – 8 Jul 1878 – Washington DC
According to the muster rolls filed in this office, "Arod" Knight was enrolled on 30 July
1861, at Monticello, Illinois, in Company F, 2nd Illinois Volunteer Cavalry, and was mustered into
service as a private on 12 Aug 1861 at Springfield. The roll for November/December 1862 reports
him taken prisoner at Holly Springs, Mississippi, on 20 Dec 1862, the regiment having been in action
at that place on that date. He is reported as a prisoner until the roll of May/June 1863 which
reports him present. He was exchanged 1 Jun 1863. Reenlisted in January of 1864.
Transferred to Company A of the same regiment and on the rolls as present until mustered out with
that Company as Corporal on 22 Nov 1865.
The rolls or returns do not show that he contracted disability.
Prisoner of War Records show "A or Orid" Knight of said company and regiment was captured
and paroled at Holly Springs, Mississippi, 20 Dec 1862. He arrived at Benton Bks, Mo, 12 Jan
1863 and reported present in February, absent without leave in March, and present in April 1863.
No evidence of medical treatment or disability.
(4) Declaration for Original Invalid Pension – 10 Mar 1890 – DeWitt Co, Illinois
Arrod Knight, aged 52, a resident of Farmer City, DeWitt Co, Illinois, declares that in the line
of his duty at Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in the summer of 1864 he contracted chills and Fever or
ague, disease of lungs. That from the above he suffers from disease of left side of chest,
partial paralysis of left arm and leg, piles, tumor in stomach, disease of lungs, eyes with
dimness of vision.
That he is on the Chicago rolls at $6 for disease of left side of chest and resulting paralysis
of left arm.
Since leaving the service the applicant has resided at Farmer City and his occupation is that
of a farmer.
When enrolled he was a man in good health and he is now totally disabled.

Arrod Knight, aged 69, resident of Farmer City, DeWitt Co, Illinois, declares he was enrolled as
a private in Company F, 2nd Illinois Volunteer Cavalry. He was born 14 Sep 1837 at Holmes
Co, Ohio. Since leaving the service his residence has been at or near Farmer City. He
is now a pensioner, No. 237685, and makes this declaration for the purpose of being placed on the
pension roll under the provisions of the Act of 6 Feb 1907.

(7) Drop Notice – 19 Jul 1911 – Chicago, Illinois
Arrod Knight, Certificate No 237685, Invalids Class, was last paid at $15 to 4 Jul 1911.
He has been dropped because of death, 14 Jul 1911.
(8) Declaration for Widow’s Pension – 3 Aug 1911 – DeWitt Co, Illinois
Elnora D. Knight, aged 66, resident of Farmer City, DeWitt Co, Illinois, declares she is the
widow of Arrod Knight who enrolled as a private in Company F, 2nd Illinois Volunteer Cavalry.
He also served as 7th Corporal, Commission dated 2 Mar 1865, Carrolton, Louisiana, and
8th Corporal, Commission dated 4 Sep 1865, San Antonio, Texas.
She was married under the name Elnora Danner at Clinton, Illinois, on the 2nd or 3rd of October,
1866, by Rev. Moore. She had not been previously married and the soldier had not been
previously married.
The said soldier died 14 Jul 1911 at Farmer City, Illinois.
There are no living children under the age of sixteen.

Arrod Knight and Miss Elnora Danner were married on 3 October 1866 by W. H. Moore, a Minister
of the Gospel in the ME Church.

(10) General Affidavit – received by Pension Office 8 Nov 1911 – DeWitt Co, Illinois
William W. Murphy, aged 73, resident of Farmer City, DeWitt Co, Illinois, states he has known
Elnora and Arrod Knight for 50 years and knows that the claimant, Elnora D. Knight, lived with
her deceased husband from the date of their marriage until his death which occurred on 14 Jul
1911.

Arrod Knight during his last sickness and that the said Arrod Knight died on 14 Jul 1911.
